It wasn’t that long ago that there weren’t great options for eating out in Provo. If you didn’t want to trek up to Sundance, you were pretty much stuck with the P-town institutions. Thankfully, things have gotten a lot better. Now there are enough truly good restaurants, you can mix them up and never run out of places to eat.
Note: we include a few places technically in Orem because they’re close enough to contribute to the ‘scene’ and worth the drive, even if you’re not already up there.
This list can serve as a guide for anyone who finds themselves in Provo, looking for a place to eat. We’ve broken out our favorites by category, roughly the most recommended first. So start at the top and work your way down!
Tops
- Communal – consistently the best place to eat in Provo
- 712 – best in Orem and ties for first, depending on the mood
- Black Sheep – delicious, upscale Navajo cuisine never misses
- Shoga – best sushi in Utah Valley, go here to get your fix
Like for lunch
- Aubergine – favorite spot for healthy lunch
- India Palace – lunch buffet, dinners, and groups, Center St in Provo
Cheap ‘n good
- Bras(s)as – best street tacos in Provo, load up at the salsa bar
Nice for a change
- Thai Village – our most frequent take out spot, good lunch special
- Station 22 – southern comfort food when you’re downtown
- Slab – only pizza we go for in Provo, good gluten free crust
- Masa – whole ingredient latin american, furthest north in Orem
- PhoPlus – good on a cold day, also have bahn mi sandwiches
Worth an honorable mention
- Hruska’s – kolaches are the best breakfast downtown, sells out by 11am
- Cubby’s – burgers, sandwiches, salads, for when the kids want Chick-fil-a
- Cup Bop – glad they settled down so I can get Korean food truck any time
- Thai Ruby – nice little sit down, close to campus, best Pad Thai in town
- Cafe Rio – everybody needs to try the Pork Salad, whole family likes it
- Molly’s – nicer cafeteria style, pretty much on here for Tomato Basil Pie
- Foundry Grill – rustic, chic, fun place to take out-of-towners
- Tree Room – really good, a little too nice for most occasions
- Koohinoor – Indian lunch special, Center St. in Orem
- Dolce Amelia – soft server gelato is worth a stop
- Mountain West Burrito – grab n go whole ingredient bazookas
- JDawgs – good once a year, everything you could want in a dog
Good with a group
- Bombay House – long time Provo, share around or get take-out
- Gloria’s – authentic Italian, something to please everyone
- Tucanos – kids love it, Brazilian grill, fun to take people who’ve never been
Lament for restaurants lost…
- Blue Pablano – I’ll never find taco Shangri-la again
- Dew – dumplings got me through my third pregnancy
- Rooster – still dream of red curry pulled pork sandwhiches and yellow curry coconut chicken noodle soup
